Contributing Large Datasets

If you are a developer and have figured out how to write directly to Freebase using MQL, you may be wondering if there are any limitations you should be aware of.

Since we are still in Alpha, we ask that if you wish to upload a large data set (more than 1,000 items), you contact us first. Large data sets should be first loaded to sandbox.freebase.com where they can be reviewed by the Metaweb data team.

Sandbox is exactly that, a sandbox - since the data is refreshed there every Monday, you can feel free to experiment and load as much data there as you'd like without contacting us.

On Freebase.com, we do have a write throttle - preventing any user from loading more than 10,000 primitives (think of these as discrete assertions) on any one day. We can increase this limit upon request, but we generally would appreciate hearing from you first before you do a major load as we're interested in both the quality and quantity of information being inserted.

Feel free to post to the discussion on this topic if you have a bigger load that you're planning to do or any related questions or comments.
