In J. R. R. Tolkien's fictional world of Middle-earth, Bag End was a smial (or hobbit-hole) in Hobbiton, above Bagshot Row. Bag End is described in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The name "Bag End" comes from the farmhouse in the tiny Worcestershire village of Dormston, in which Tolkien's aunt lived. It can also be seen as a pun on "cul-de-sac" (literally, "bottom of the bag").
